has been on the cover of every national magazine. Her beauty, her
brains, her bravery - all are public property. Everyone wants a piece of
her - and she must escape the feeding frenzy at all costs. But she
cannot, and the consequences are deadly. Thus the stage is set for Dr.
Alan Gregory's most stunning, brainteasing crisis yet. The
Colorado-based psychologist-sleuth must solve a case of twisted desire
and terror to save not only a golden girl pursued by the furies of fame
but also his wife, Boulder County D.A. Lauren Crowder, imprisoned on
suspicion of murder.
For it was Lauren who took Emma under her wing, and
it was Lauren who pulled the trigger on the mysterious stalker who
menaced Emma's safety and sanity. Step by step, amid accelerating acts
of terror, Alan Gregory suspects he may be dealing not with a sick mind
fixated on a fantasy of female perfection but with deadly greed fueled
by a high-tech prize that may be worth billions. Meanwhile, his
investigation is turned into a desperate race against time as a medical
emergency threatens to turn his wife's incarceration into a death
sentence.

Diamond Willow
by Helen Frost
There’s more to me than most people see.
Twelve-year-old Willow would rather blend in than stick out. But she still wants to be seen for who she is. She wants her parents to notice that she is growing up. She wants her best friend to like her better than she likes a certain boy. She wants, more than anything, to mush the dogs out to her grandparents’ house, by herself, with Roxy in the lead. But sometimes when it’s just you, one mistake can have frightening consequences . . . And when Willow stumbles, it takes a surprising group of friends to help her make things right again.
Using diamond-shaped poems inspired by forms found in polished diamond willow sticks, Helen Frost tells the moving story of Willow and her family. Hidden messages within each diamond carry the reader further, into feelings Willow doesn’t reveal even to herself.
Julia’s Kitchen by Brenda A. Ferber
Cara Segal is a born worrier. She figures her worrying works like a whisper in God’s ear – if Cara’s concerned about car crashes, kidnappings, or murders, she lets God know, and he always spares her. But Cara never thought to worry about a fire. And one night while she’s sleeping at a friend’s house, her house catches fire, and her mother and younger sister are both killed.
Throughout shiva, the initial Jewish mourning period, Cara can’t help wondering about God’s role in the tragedy. And what is her father’s role in her life now? He walks around like a ghost and refuses to talk about the fire. Cara longs for her family and her home, where sweet smells filled the house as Cara’s mom filled orders for her catering business, Julia’s Kitchen.
Then one day a call comes in for a cookie order, and Cara gets a wild idea. Maybe by bringing back Julia’s Kitchen, she can find a way to reconnect with everything she’s lost.
Complete with a glossary of Hebrew and Yiddish terms and a recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

Jackson Jones and the Curse of the Outlaw Rose by Mary
Quattlebaum
Jackson Jones can't get away from roses. First his mother got him a plot at Rooter's, a community garden, where Jackson planted a rosebush of thorns and no blooms. Now Mr. K., a fellow gardener, enlists Jackson's help to rustle up some hardier, prettier, sweeter-smelling old-time roses. The kind that grow in cemeteries! But no sooner do Jackson and his good friend, Reuben, take the rose cutting home than Reuben's gloom-and-doom talk of curses seems real.
Broken bones. Poison ivy. Stinging bees. Jackson doesn't want to believe that anyone who comes in contact with the cemetery roses or cut twig suffers any of these consequences. But could it be that by taking the cutting, Jackson places his friends, Rooter's, and even himself--gulp!--under the curse of the outlaw rose?

The Waterstone by Rebecca Rupp
The world is drying. Twelve-year-old Tad — who is only a few inches tall — doesn’t even notice it at first. Busy practicing with his new spear, arguing with his sister, Birdie, and living the normal life of a youngling of the Fisher Tribe, he thinks little of a stream slowed to a trickle here, a pond suddenly dwindling there.
But Tad begins to have strange flashbacks — glimpses of the past that he knows can't possibly be his own. With these "rememberings" haunting him, he and Birdie begin an adventure marked by great sorrows, fierce battles, and unbreakable friendships.
Only he can retrieve the Waterstone.
